Anything can happen in a small town lost near the Arctic Circle. The arrival of Koldo, an unlucky Basque lawyer carrying a bag full of black money destined to buy the old cod factory of Hólmavík, will open a world of possibilities for its inhabitants.

Everything goes wrong when Finnur, the owner, dies suddenly moments before signing the sale, and the money is trapped in a safe hidden behind a painting in his office, before Koldo's astonished eyes.

Many other characters populate this frozen world: Finnur's scheming daughters, Páll the old voyeur, Thora the waitress who yearns to escape, Clint the movie-obsessed police chief, or Frank, a hitman about to retire... They all form a landscape nobody would believe could exist beneath the tranquility of this corner of the world, isolated by a snowstorm.

The Law That Allowed Killing Basques

In 1615, a group of Basque whalers was shipwrecked off the coast of Iceland. Thirty-two of them were murdered by locals in the largest massacre in Iceland's history. A law enacted that same year by Danish King Christian IV authorized Icelanders in the northwestern fjords to kill Basques with total impunity. It was not repealed until April 22, 2015.
